A lot of products of the cosmetic industry contain greater or lesser amount of harmful ingredients that we are using every single day in order to smell good and clean. But is it worth compromising your health for it?
You can find pretty good and effective natural organic deodorants at these retailer shops. They’re also my favorites.:
You should know more about regular deodorants…
The under-mentioned ingredients are especially dangerous because they bypass the body’s natural defense lines and go directly into the bloodstream.
List of the most common toxic ingredients used in deodorants you should avoid:
(+ I also made a list of toxic ingredients in cosmetics and a post about effective natural deodorants. The links will open in a new tab.)
It has been now nearly over a century since the cosmetic industry and pharmaceutical companies started using parabens in their products. It is also used in textiles, leather and in other shoe care creams as preservative. Research has shown that parabens affect the production of hormones, the breast area can be particularly problematic if we use such toxic and harsh chemicals around the area regularly. According to the professors, parabens are responsible for the formation of tumors in the breasts that can lead to breast cancer. It is common in both women and men. This is a serious problem which is confirmed by laboratory tests.
There are certain aluminum salts that are meant to block the sweat glands in order to prevent sweating. These salts tighten the pores, cause skin irritation and they can accumulate in larger amounts in the breast tissue. Many types of cancer starts from the armpit area. Shaving the armpits regularly will result in increased absorption of said salts. The absorbed aluminum will also result in an increased chance of having Alzheimer disease.
It is advisable to use ONLY NATURAL antiperspirants instead of the harsh usual ones.
The usage of Triclosan began in the beginning of the seventies because of its antibacterial and preservative effect. It can be found in shower gels, deodorants, toothpaste, mouthwashes and soaps. Animal studies has shown that Triclosan is an endocrine disruptor which interferes with the hormonal functioning and it can even cause allergic reactions and liver cancer formation. It is also a proven fact, that it increases the chance of heart diseases and ruins the muscles.
This toxic compound helps to keep the content of the deodorants to stick to your armpits and among others, it is also gives the flexibility of PVC. Phthalates can worsen the body’s testosterone production. Since women also have testosterone both genders are equally affected. Some studies have also found, that children coming into contact with this toxic compound had lower IQ levels and had a higher rate of asthma occurring among them.
Is it really worth for you to expose your children to these toxic compounds? I don’t think so…
Deodorants owe their pleasant smell to the perfumes in them. The exact composition is a top secret; it enjoys the protection of confidential commercial rights. In turn it means, that we have no idea what the certain product’s “fragrance” is made of. Naturally, when we are talking about regular products it is more likely that it contains synthetic fragrances which are proven to be carcinogenic and unhealthy for us. It can also cause allergic symptoms or skin irritation. Since fragrances can be everything, more than 1400 ingredients, you will have no idea what it really is. It can be literally ANYTHING you can imagine. This is horrible! In some cases, it can cause allergic reactions only by smelling it. Isn’t it horrible?
It is terrible, that most commercially available deodorants contain these harmful substances. It is definitely worth buying fragrance-free products and natural agents. If you can, please buy always organic and natural deodorants because it not only contains natural ingredients but they are also good for your health. It may cost a bit more but it is worth it for your own health’s sake. Don’t say things like “oh, it can’t happen with me…” because it can. Do not live in a dream world and please, open your eyes. Do not put your head in the sand.
There are some especially allergenic fragrances that are mandatory to be labeled in the European Union since 2003. I made a list of said ingredients and highlighted the 13 most problematic of the 26.

- Benzyl Alcohol
- Cinnamyl Alcohol
- Amylcinnamyl Alcohol

- Hydroxyisohexyl-3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyd

The usage of toxic and harsh chemicals in products must be stopped
Keep in mind, that there are also many green-washed brands on the market so please always make sure what you buy. Check the ingredients every single time. I have just found a cruelty-free deodorant on the internet, it looked really cool because its label said that it’s natural… but I totally disappointed because of its ingredient.
I’m sorry to say, but I just found out that the deodorant what Crystal Body Deodorant offers, contains Potassium aluminum sulfate which is obviously an aluminum salt and toxic for your body. Aluminum is NOT for the human body. Sadly it also applies to CertainDri deodorants because its ingredient list contains Aluminum chloride. It is funny and pathetic that they’re writing such misleading texts on the packages like “doctor recommended” and “natural protection”. Yea.. of course. The good thing is that these two are cruelty-free; but please, do NOT ever forget that NOT every single vegan or cruelty-free product is natural and organic!
This is a very important thing to understand. It is an amazing thing to protect animals against cruelty and I definitely support it because I love animals so much.
A product being cruelty-free is not enough for me because my other big criteria of what I buy is that a product must NOT contain any harsh chemicals in it. In my opinion, not only animal cruelty must be stopped, but the usage of toxic and harsh chemicals in products as well. I respect myself enough to not use any harsh product on my skin and you should do the same. I have also wrote a post about not all cruelty-free and vegan cosmetics are “healthy” or “natural”. I hope this information will help. Please share this content with your friends and family, I appreciate that.
